Leadership Programs: Training and Education

As leaders we all have the potential to improve upon and capitalize on our strengths, learn to work with our weaknesses, and challenge ourselves to approach leadership in new ways. Opportunities to expand on your leadership skills and knowledge can be found here.

      Training and Education

Passport to Leadership
The Passport to Leadership program provides an educational pathway for UCI Students interested in maximizing their potential as leaders. Passport is geared toward giving students a thorough education in leadership development and providing resources to emerging leaders.

Students interested in earning a Passport to Leadership Certificate can do so by attending the required number of workshops.

Safe Zone
Safe Zone is a symbol of the University of California, Irvine ’s commitment to diversity and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community on campus.  Open to any campus affiliate, the program trains individuals to identify as Allies that are informed, supportive, and affirming of the LGBTQA community at UC Irvine. Safe Zone creates a more welcoming campus climate for LGBTQ and Ally faculty, staff, and students.  Sponsored by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center , the program fosters a community network that embraces sexual and gender diversity.

Reaffirming Ethnic Awareness and Community Harmony (R.E.A.C.H.)
Reaffirming Ethnic Awareness and Community Harmony, known as R.E.A.C.H., is an educational outreach program of the Cross-Cultural Center devoted to increasing awareness and knowledge of the issues and topics important to community harmony in a multicultural world. R.E.A.C.H. consists of a select group of UCI students trained to present workshops on multicultural and ethnic diversity topics. R.E.A.C.H. Facilitators are chosen from various segments of the campus community, and share a dedication to building a harmonious academic and social environment at UCI.

Student Conduct Board
The Student Conduct Board is convened for certain conduct cases involving suspension or dismissal from the university. The Board is made up of 3 students, and 2 staff/faculty, who are selected from a larger standing pool. Members are responsible for reviewing the case and making recommendations for sanctions to the Dean of Students.

We are looking for students to be part of this standing pool that can be called upon throughout the year to adjudicate cases. Students are required to attend a 1.5 hour training session (see details below) and may attend additional sessions if they are interested in hearing sexual assault cases.

Administrative Internship Program
Each year, approximately 25 undergraduates are selected to participate in the UCI Administrative Intern Program. Under the guidance of carefully chosen UCI mentors, Administrative Interns work 10 hours per week in campus departments where they assume responsibility for projects and enhance their leadership skills. Students selected for this year-long program also enroll in a three-quarter course through the Paul Merage School of Business where they receive 12 units of graded credit for the academic year.
